Quick Summary
MindLock does not sell your personal data.
Accessibility access is used only to detect user-selected blocked apps or app surfaces, such as YouTube Shorts, and apply the blocking behavior you configure. Blocked-attempt counts, focus settings, PIN hash, custom blocked apps, and schedule settings are designed to stay on your device unless a feature clearly says otherwise.
The free plan displays ads served through Google Mobile Ads / AdMob. Google and its partners may process device and advertising identifiers, IP address, diagnostic information, and ad interaction data under their own policies to deliver, measure, and protect ads.
1. Who We Are
This Privacy Policy applies to MindLock, a mobile application for focus protection, short-form content blocking, scheduled blocking, and user-selected app blocking. In this policy, "MindLock," "we," "us," and "our" refer to the MindLock app and its operator.
If you have questions or privacy requests, contact us at miandaem1@gmail.com.
2. Data We Handle
MindLock is built to minimize data collection. Depending on how you use the app, the following categories may be created, stored, or processed:
3. Accessibility Permission
MindLock uses Android AccessibilityService only for app functionality. It is not presented as an accessibility tool for users with disabilities.
Accessibility access lets MindLock detect when the person using the device opens a built-in or user-selected app or app surface configured for blocking, such as YouTube Shorts or another chosen distraction app. When a configured blocked state is detected, MindLock may return you to the previous screen, send you to the home screen, or show a blocking overlay depending on your settings.
To detect a configured blocked state, MindLock may inspect accessibility event details, package names, visible text, content descriptions, and view identifiers from watched apps. This is used only for blocking decisions, and MindLock stores only limited local block activity such as the blocked app label, package name, count, time, and reason.
MindLock does not use AccessibilityService to read private messages, capture passwords, collect unrelated screen content, serve ads, build advertising profiles, or perform hidden surveillance. Accessibility-derived content is used only to decide whether a configured blocking rule should be applied.
You enable Accessibility permission manually in Android settings and can disable it at any time from Android settings.
4. Data Stored On Your Device
The following information is primarily stored locally on your device:
- Onboarding completion and app preferences.
- Focus session settings, scheduled blocking rules, and selected blocked apps.
- Blocked-attempt counts and last block reason used for in-app status or analytics.
- Custom blocked app labels and package names selected by you.
- Hashed PIN data stored through secure device storage.
- Cached subscription tier or purchase state needed to unlock features.
Removing the app, clearing app data, or using Android account/device controls may remove locally stored data, depending on your device settings and backup configuration.
5. Third-Party Services
MindLock may use these third-party services to provide core app functionality:
- Firebase Authentication: used for email, password, email-link, and Google sign-in features.
- Google Sign-In: used when you choose to sign in with a Google account.
- Firebase Crashlytics: used in release builds for crash reporting and stability diagnostics.
- Google Play Billing: used if you purchase or manage premium features through Google Play.
- Google Mobile Ads / AdMob: used to show app open, banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads on the free plan.
These providers may process information under their own privacy terms. You can review Google's privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy.
7. Security And Retention
MindLock uses device storage, secure storage for PIN hash data, and platform services designed to protect app data. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we aim to limit collection and keep sensitive app behavior local where practical.
Local data remains on your device until you change settings, clear app data, uninstall the app, or your device removes it. Account, authentication, crash, and billing records may be retained by service providers according to their retention rules and legal obligations.
8. Your Choices And Controls
- You can turn MindLock protection settings on or off inside the app.
- You can disable Accessibility permission from Android settings.
- You can disable notification permissions from Android settings, though this may affect foreground protection visibility and reliability.
- You can remove custom blocked apps and change scheduled blocking rules inside the app.
- You can sign out of your account inside the app.
- You can request account deletion using the pathway described in the Account Deletion section below.
- You can request account or privacy assistance by emailing miandaem1@gmail.com.
If you request deletion of account-related data, we may ask for information needed to verify the request and complete deletion. Some records may be retained where required for security, fraud prevention, billing, or legal reasons.
9. Children And Shared Devices
MindLock may be used by adults for self-control or by a parent/guardian configuring rules on a shared device. MindLock is not intended for hidden monitoring or surveillance. A parent or guardian is responsible for configuring the app lawfully and explaining its use where appropriate.
We do not knowingly sell children's personal data or use app data for behavioral advertising.
10. Account Deletion
If you created a MindLock account, you can delete it inside the app from Settings > Delete account. MindLock asks for your PIN first, and may also require you to confirm with your account sign-in method before deletion is completed.
If you cannot access the app, you can also email miandaem1@gmail.com with the subject line MindLock Account Deletion Request. Include the email address used for your MindLock account so we can verify the request.
If you have an active subscription, cancel it in Google Play first or mention it in your request so we can guide you correctly. After verification, we will delete or request deletion of account-linked data we control, such as your MindLock authentication record, except where we must retain limited information for security, fraud prevention, billing, or legal compliance.
Most focus settings, blocked-app selections, blocked-attempt counts, and PIN-related data are stored locally on your device. To remove those local records, uninstall the app or clear the app's data in Android settings.
11. Changes To This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as MindLock changes or as legal, platform, or operational requirements evolve. When we update it, we will revise the effective date above. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or through another reasonable method.
